Scam Surveys, How to Avoid Them

Posted on the June 3rd, 2011 under Computer & Internet by oscarplatikus

There are a lot of things on the internet that sound too good to be true, and most often they are in fact that way. It’s interesting to note that one of the most ubiquitous scam going on today is for paid survey websites. Scam surveys are popping up all over the internet, and well meaning people are falling for them on a regular basis. These sites take information, exploit the user, then give nothing back. Sadly, there seems to be no end in sight, but there are three major ways to avoid them, so that being scammed will not happen to you.

If you encounter a site asking you to do a review survey, look at the website closely. Most websites that are worth their weight have a privacy policy, read it. Yes, you will have to take a little extra time looking at the information and you’ll have to read the fine print, but this will showcase whether or not the site is a scam site or not.

The second thing you will need to do is look at whether a paid survey seems legitimate or not. There are a lot of promises thrown out by these sites, and if they are offering lots of money or the opportunity to have a full time job just doing surveys, it’s a scam site.

The last thing to look for, and this could save you a lot of time and trouble, is to look for the Better Business Bureau symbol. Yes, anyone can take the sign and put it on their site, but real websites that are registered with the BBB will have a link back to the site for verification. If the site is verified then you can trust them. Do not trust just any link, make sure to double check.

The best way to avoid being scammed into doing a review survey, a paid survey, or Scam Surveys, is simply to be patient and keep your eyes open. Trust your instinct, most often you’ll be right about a website, so walk away. There is no pain in walking away, but if you get scammed, there’s going to be a lot of hurt.
